I didn’t really understand you
So many times along the way
So many times I was so distant
No matter what you tried to say
I didn’t really want to listen
To all your doubt, fear and concern
I only felt your disappointment
It seemed wherever I would turn
No matter what life ever was
You saw what it could never be
Your endless view of imperfection
Was all I thought that you could see
You never had what you desired
Or so it seemed so many days
There were no answers to the sorrow
Despite attempts in many ways
Such a hopeless, helpless feeling
A feeling I knew not how to bear
Escape was all I saw available
From endless, bottomless despair
But there are lessons for the hopeless
For those who see no hope at all
There are lessons for the desperate
No matter how far it seems they fall
There is a grace that transcends circumstance
A grace that doesn’t need a brighter day
A grace without a useful answer
A grace without a better way
There is a grace without perfection
A grace that doesn’t need a right or wrong
A grace without a good or bad
A grace without a weak or strong
There is the grace offered humanity
That allows a soul to be
There is a purity of spirit
That it takes nothing to be
The greatest gift that can be offered
Is to allow a life to be
What true blessing can I give you
But to embrace your destiny
